We recently had an adorable female cat in our care. She came to us as a stray and heavily pregnant. She wasn’t microchipped, nor could we find her owner, so she ended up giving birth to her two kittens in foster care with us.
Sadly, we also discovered she had terminal cancer. Which if she been spayed earlier may never have happened. Female cats spayed before they are 6 months old have a 91% less chance of getting breast cancer. Those spayed between 6 months and a year old have an 86% reduction.
Un-spayed female cats are also at a greater risk of contracting:
FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Disease)
FLV (Feline Leukaemia Virus)
encountering complications during pregnancy
uterine infections
ovarian cysts
and generally live less longer.
For their sake, please have your cat spayed.
